Day 23 & Reintroducing Foods

24 Jan

One week from today will be day 30, so it’s time to start thinking about what foods you’re going to bring back and the best way to do this reintroduction. Right now you’ve got a clean slate. You’ve spend the past few weeks eating only the most nutrient-dense, natural foods. Your body has detoxed from whatever unhealthy cravings and addictions you had. You don’t want all of that to go to waste, right? So, here’s what we suggest you do. Make a list of the foods you want to bring back into your regular diet, and order them by priority. Then make your first non-paleo meal including that one item, and eat clean for a couple of days after that. See how you feel. Did anything change? If it did, you then decide if it’s worth it to you to bring the food back or not. Once you make a decision about that food, move on to the second, and so forth. This is how we decided to no longer eat gluten.

Over our 30 days, I lost only about 2 pounds and 1/2″ off of my waist. This past week I reintroduced eggs and peppers. Neither made me feel terrible. The minimal weight loss is not worth it to me, so we are keeping eggs and peppers. This week we’re bringing back tomatoes to see how that goes. Unless something crazy happens, these will probably come back as well. Make sense? Think about it. It would be a bummer to do all of this work, and then do out there and eat everything you’ve missed for a month, feel yucky, and have no idea what food did it to you.

Happy Day 23!
